DIY Tips

There are many ways to go green. Simple things like changing your light bulbs will save you money and better the environment. Read below for our TOP 10 DIY Tips for saving energy and saving money.

1. Install a programmable thermostat to keep your house comfortably warm during the winter.

2. Use energy saving light bulbs.

3. Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher’s drying cycle.

4.  Turn off your computer, monitor and printer when not in use.

5. Plug home electronics (such as tv’s and DVD players) into multi-gang extension leads.  When in standby appliances still use power  so turn the extension leads off when equipment is not in use.

6. Lower thermostat to 65 degrees on your hot water cylinder.

7. Take short showers instead of baths.

8. Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.

9. Try to use energy efficient products (ex. refrigerators, dishwasher , washing machines , etc.) even if they do cost slightly more.  Energy efficient appliances offer substantial long-term savings on your energy bills.

10. If using an immersion heater, install a timer for occasional hot water requirements.  These require just a simple push of a button to give you just the right amount of hot water you need.
